Plan your segments
A segment is one continuous narration. Most short videos have 2-5 segments, separated by visual beats. Sketch them out:
- Segment 1 (0:00 - 0:05): hook.
- Segment 2 (0:08 - 0:15): promise.
- Segment 3 (0:20 - 0:32): payoff.
Leave gaps between segments. Silence is part of the narration.

This is the secret weapon. Pick one warm voice for the hook and a different, more authoritative voice for the payoff — your video will feel like a conversation between two friends. Or pick a calm voice for explanation and an energetic voice for the call to action.
Duck background music
Leave this on. Lumen drops the music by 9dB whenever a segment plays, then brings it back up. Sounds professional, takes zero effort.
Remove original audio
Use this when your footage has unwanted sound — dialogue you're replacing, wind noise, distracting background. The original sound is removed and only your narration + music remain.
